i was honored once again to be able to put a piece in lucas ranch's benefit art auction this year. Unfortunately I didn't have a lot of time and opted to go for something different. Gouche. It wasn't super successful but it was a lot of fun and I look forward to playing around with the medium more in the future.

Safehouse: Show One was a big success. A ton of great artists put pieces in the show and there was an awesome turn out. Here's a few photos, including a sneak peak of my studio and one of the paintings I sold.

Skywalker Ranch Art Auction 2011

i was lucky enough to be invited back to the Skywalker Ranch art auction again this year. I tried to do something more Star Wars related this time around and this is the piece i did for the show.

edit: i heard today that the show raised over seven thousand dollars! My piece was picked up by Steve Sansweet and will now be put in his Rancho Obi-Wan collection, the worlds largest private Star Wars collection. i feel really honored.

here are a few life drawings done at the safehouse. The first are quicker sketches and the rest are varying long poses. all are graphite on bristol except the toned paper sketch. That is graphite and white chalk on toned paper. it's always fun doing these studies. thanks for checking it out.

Just a quick update here with an oil sketch.

the oil sketch was a paper bag sitting under a window in the atelier. I tend to keep a lot of objects i'm interested in painting but not quite sure what to do with around my studio. the idea is that i'll keep seeing the objects several times a day and subconsciously they will always be in the back of my head. eventually that will lead me to think of something interesting almost out of nowhere. haha kind of silly but it has worked in the past... or at least i think it has. Maybe i'm a little crazy though :) I hope you enjoy.

i thought i would put up a few figure studies. The drawing is another long pose, graphite on paper. The painting is from another long pose session. oil on canvas. i'm not sure of the size but it was an interesting one to do. you can see the color study that was done for it below.

a few new things

just a few paintings that i've been sitting on for a while. i did a different painting of the bobcat scull trying a few new things with texture and value. i don't really feel it was successful but it was cool to try something a little different. The next little painting is the same skull turned backwards. Both are oil on panel and i think 5 by 7 inches.

the next few paintings are a figure painting that i didn't get finished and a few color studies. Doing the color studies has been kind of interesting. They are kind of a different way of thinking compared to what i'm used to. They are pretty gloppy and gross but I always enjoy seeing studies and these kind of things from other artists so hopefully someone will enjoy these too haha :).

anyway i hope you guys enjoy them!

Skywalker Art Auction

last weekend i got the honor of being asked to be apart of the 2nd annual Skywalker Art Auction for breast cancer and aids patients in san francisco. It was a really fun event and I got to meet a lot of great people and fantastic artists there. There was a lot of really great stuff in the show and i believe there were around 50 pieces overall. I put in a few things but the most popular of them seemed to be the bobcat oil painting below. The spoon oil sketch from the first post was the other paiting in the show.

i thought i would make a post before heading home for the holidays. The first drawing is another long pose drawing and then a portrait sketch from the atelier's tuesday night sessions. Both graphite on paper. The next is a still-life i never finished (oil on panel). It didn't get very far but i'm thinking about setting it back up with a few changes and revisiting it. The next two are some oil sketches done on paper. The first one is a pear and the second one is of my hat and jacket hanging in my studio space at school.
